Gemstones can play an interesting role when creating a brand new senshi or creating any type of fictional character. By associating a gemstone, you might be able to more easily develop a characters powers or personality. ‘Favorite gemstone’ is a category that is often included in an otaku senshi’s profile, so knowing a little about the stones will help you choose an appropriate one. This article will look into the general meanings of 50 gemstones, and will hopefully help you to decide if a gemstone is right for your senshi! Agate
Dark Agate stones are stones of courage. They bring strength, prosperity, and they are stones that are said to bring victory. Lighter shades of the stone are said to bring peace and protect against snake bites and lightening. (2) Agate banishes fear and brings about the power of truth; it is symbolic of the Third Eye.(3)

Named for Czar Alexander II of Russia in 1830,(2) this stone represents regeneration. Its power is to the crown chakra. Good fortune is said to be brought by this stone. (3)

Psychic and creative abilities are said to be enhanced by this powerful stone. (1) It is said to bring good fortune from high places and was once thought to stave off drunkenness. It is a calming stone, and it brings peace and relaxation to stressful minds. (2) Protection, spiritual attunement, gives visions or opens spiritual and psychic centers, reduces mental tension, induces pleasant healing dreams, prevents over indulgence and encourages transformation and breaking of bad habits. It will provide a positive attitude towards life, and bring its bearer into alignment with their center. It has been reported by some people to be able to provide independence, health and well being. Aventurine (red/orange)
This color of aventurine has been said to provide reflective qualities so that a person can recognize the flaws of humanity and can remain in the heart space to continue to love this same humanity. To be able to help a person to look at a situation in complete detail, and magnify those aspects of importance. Some people believe it provides for self reflection, and allows a person to recognize that when you look at a person you are actually only seeing the reflection of the person that you choose them to be. It clears up the notion of stereotypes. It is believed by some people that when you use this stone while fasting it will help to reduce your hunger. (2)

This is the jewel of wisdom. It also revitalizes damaged tissue. It is used in hypnosis as it stimulates thought and gives mental control. (3)

Bloodstone
The stone of courage & wisdom. It was once believed to slow or stop bleeding, and therefore strengthen the heart, spleen & bone marrow. It is associated with healing, courage, victory, wealth, and good business. (1) Originally thought to represent the blood of Jesus Christ by Christians because of it's colors (dark green with orange or red spots). It used to be prescribed as a cure for all types of bleeding, internal and external. It was given to the injured or sick person to wear or place it over the affected area so the bleeding would stop. Scientifically it was probably the stone’s cold touch which caused the bleeding to decrease or stop. This stone is also said to bring the owner strength, justice, and success in court and legal affairs, and allegedly make the owner prosperous in all financial dealings. (2)

Cat’s-Eye
Believed to be a potent charm against the Evil Eye. Also said to bring success in business speculations, gambling, and games of chance, bring wealth, and prevent all financial losses. It was thought that if you carried a cat’s-eye you would be assured mental stability and general attractiveness. (2) It brings insight into one's own faults, and for practical uses treats the eyes. (3)

Citrine
This is one of the few minerals on the planet believed to not hold and accumulate negative energy, but to be able to dissipate and transmute it. This in turn gives it the ability to work out problems on both physical and subtle levels. Citrine has been called the "merchants stone" because it was said that if you place a piece of citrine in your cash box it will produce more income for you. People once believed that citrine would diminish a person's self destructive tendencies. Also, it is supposed to be able to raise your self esteem, make your heart light, give you lots of happiness, and fill you full of hope. Citrine is supposed to be warming, energizing and able to attract abundance. (2) Cheerfulness, control over emotions, clear thought, and ability to overcome mental blocks are all related to this stone. (3)

Coral
Coral is not truly a stone, but a hard calcium-like substance formed from the fossilized skeletons of marine life. It comes in many different varieties and colors. Coral has been carried by some people as a Kahuna magical charm. It was believed to be an amulet that protects people from sterility and from a gaze of the Evil Eye. When used as protection from evil, the coral had to be worn directly against the body, because it was believed that the coral itself captured and destroyed the sorcery before it could reach the owner. Another popular superstition was that a goiter could be cured by wearing a necklace of coral. This is a popular stone that is used to make rosary beads to keep evil at a safe distance. It is believed that a gift of coral will protect the health and growth of an infant. Many people once believed that if the coral color began to fade (or pale) that the wearer was about to become ill, and the coral would return to it's original color when the person became well again. (2) Good for keeping thoughts in control for visualization and while meditating; helps arthritis. (3)

Diamond
This highly sought after stone is said to increase personal clarity; it is associated with innocence, virtue, success, conjugal affection, unshakeable faith, and is thought to remove evil thoughts. (1) Once used as an amulet to protect a person from the plague, pestilence, and the Evil Eye, it was also believed to drive away madness, wild beasts, demons, and devils. Losing a diamond was considered an omen of bad luck. Some people believe that if you dip a diamond in water that water would acquire healing properties. It was also believed that if you dipped a diamond in a mixture of water and wine the mixture would have the ability to make a person immune to gout, jaundice, and apoplexy. Diamonds have had a reputation for keeping the body in tune with the infinite, which in turn helps a person to withstand the pressures of the material world. (2) Diamonds help with respiratory problems, attune the bearer to higher forces, and work best when worn with other stones. They also open the Ajna and Crown Chakras. (3)

Emerald
This stone brings safety in child-bearing, luck in love, and general tranquility. (1) Thought to signify faithfulness and unchanging love, Emeralds are also carried to protect from accidents and guard one from possession by demons. (2) Meditation, healing, business success are all related to the stone. It totally rejects evil, gives power to foretell future events, and provides a link with spiritual forces. (3)

Garnet
This stone is used in matters of healing, protection, strength, heart, blood, sexuality, passion/desire, constancy, and truth. (1) The garnet represents friendship. According to legend, if you wear garnets they will improve your personal relationships and protect you from harm. This benefit supposedly doubles if your birthday is in January which carries this stone as it's birthstone. They were often used as good luck charms by the bourgeoisie in the 18th and 19th centuries in Europe. Also thought to assure the wearer of love, devotion from loved ones, health, faithfulness, energy, and to keep a person from having bad dreams during sleep. When worn on the body, it is thought to prevent skin diseases and protect against infection of wounds. (2) Aids in remembering dreams, for going backwards in time; attracts profound love, gives persistence, cures depression, and works on liver to relieve toxins in the body. (3)

Hematite
Bestows wisdom, idealism and unselfishness on wearer; strengthens stomach and intestines when worn on solar plexus; helps stop bleeding. (3)

Iolite
Iolite been known to be referred to as the “Viking’s Compass.” The Vikings were able to locate the position of the sun by looking through thin colorless slices of Iolite on cloudy days, most likely because the stone acted like a light polarizer and canceled out haze and mist. (2)

Jade
Because jade is resistant to breakage and chipping, early man thought of this stone as the most superior material in which to make weapons and tools from. It's colors reminded him of nature and the stone was considered the as a means of survival. Because of this, jade was thought to be a gift from heaven. The great Chinese philosopher Confucius said that jade represented the whole of purity, the sureness of intelligence, music, and loyalty. He was talking about it’s polish and brilliancy, compactness and hardness, the pure and prolong sound it made when struck, and its' color. Jade is still worn today by millions of people of Oriental decent for good luck and health. It is given as a gift to celebrate all of the important occasions of life (i.e. marriages, anniversaries, births, and business agreements). Many people once believed that it could relieve a pain in your side, and thus it became known as the “Stone of the Side.” It has been given a reputation as a symbol for modesty, courage, wisdom, and justice. Jade has been used as a talisman of longevity because it was thought to protect people from accidents and injuries, and for making men be victorious in war. Many people have believed the stone to be able to relieve kidney, heart, and stomach problems. Race car drivers and race jockeys have been known to carry jade because they believe it can bring them success in racing. Businessmen have been known to hold a piece of jade in their hand because they believed it would help them to make the proper decision in business deals and thus lead them in the right direction for success. (2) The stone is related to peace, tranquility, soothing the eyes and calming emotions; it's most prominently seen attributes are time travel backwards, wisdom, universal attunement, and long-life with a peaceful death. (3)

Jasper
Believed to be a talisman for courage and to bring relief from pain this stone is also said to aid pregnant women to have an easy childbirth and to increase the milk supply during nursing. Jasper is thought to stop bleeding of the nose and slow down a heavy menstrual flow. It is used as a firm protection against the dark forces of evil because it turns back to the sender the Evil Eye. (2) Improves sense of smell, strengthens one's will to do good, and balances the emotions.(3)

Lapis Lazuli
This beautiful blue stones name comes from the Latin word for stone, lapis, and the Persian word lazward which means blue. The ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians used lapis for adornments and also ground it up to make eye shadow, medicine, and a pigment called ultra marine. This pigment has been used in many of the worlds most famous paintings. Some people believe that this stone has the ability to allow a person to see into, and foretell, the future. The Ancient Sumerians held this stone in great reverence as it was their most precious. They used it to decorate and accent fine works of art and often used it as a representation of their king. They believed the person who wore a lapis lazuli amulet carried with them the soul of a god and that the “God will rejoice him.” It was also believed that lapis could ward off calamities of every kind, had the ability to prevent miscarriages and abortions. People believe this stone brought courage to a timid person, a light spirit to the despondent, strong affection from a loved one, loyalty from friends, and success in all that a person undertakes. It has been said that if you touch the body with this gem your mental, spiritual, and physical conditions should improve. (2) Stone of friendship, helps one to be more kind and helpful, spiritual attunement, connects us to our resonating star, it is a stone of fidelity. (3)

Malachite
This stone has been used for jewelry, magic charms and ornaments, as well as ground into powder and worn as eye makeup as far back as 3000 BC. This very same powder pigment is used by painters under the name of “mountain green.” Malachite has been dubbed “The Magic Stone” for it is said to bring good luck, safe travel, and protection from the Evil Eye. It is also believed to bring good health, success, and constancy of affection as well as to dispel despondency, safeguard against rheumatism, and protect all young people. People in Italy used to use malachite to cure eye diseases. It was also believed that if you tied it over the naval of a woman in labor that it would ease the pain of childbirth, and if hung around the neck of children it would relieve teething pains. (2) Brings prosperity, treats the eyes and abnormal blood sugar levels; treats circulatory diseases. (3)

Moonstone
This powerful stone is associated with drawing love, divination, driving away nightmares, prophetic dreams, and peace of mind. However, insomnia is also an attribute. (1) In India a very long time ago, people once thought moonstone was actually moonlight that had solidified. Supposedly, it could bring you good fortune and help you foretell the events of the future if held in your mouth especially during a waning moon. It has also been reported by some to attract good luck, protect a person on land and/or while at sea, be able to give you mental inspiration, and bring success in love and good fortune in business. People believe that if you want moonstone to bring you good luck, you should keep it wrapped up in a yellow cloth and carry it in your pocket. If an abundant harvest is what you desire, it is said that you should hang moonstone from the branch of a fruit tree. It's said to have the ability to help a person choose the right course of action to take in any matter in which one must make a choice. Moonstone has also been taunted by some as a talisman against cancer, kidney disease, and dropsy. (2) It is calming, good for meditation, helpful with spiritual guidance and protection while traveling. It's used as a prophetic stone, a love stimulator, and brings happy experiences to those who are sensitive. (3)

Onyx is the stone of sincerity. (1) Thought to reduce the pains of childbirth if placed on or near the woman in labor it is also believed to keep nightmares away and bring a peaceful rest. On the other hand, it has been used to cause trouble by placing it between two lovers, meant to cause strife and contention between them. (2) Stone of separation; can be used for purpose of release, to end a bothersome relationship. (3)

Opal
This stone is often seen as unlucky unless it is the fiancée's birthstone. It reflects every mood tenfold. (1) Opals were once said to bring good fortune because they possessed the colors and powers of all gemstones. Since they are very sensitive to the atmospheric conditions, their brilliancy varies and is determined by the temperature and moisture in the air. Many believers say that an opal has a soul of their very own, and it attunes it’s soul to that of the person who wears it. Long ago, some people believed that an opal could predict it’s owner’s death by emitting a fiery hue for a few seconds and then becoming dull. Because they have the ability to change colors, people soon began attributing certain myths to each color; for instance, bright colors indicated good fortune and success, while dull and lifeless colors symbolized a warning of disappointment and failure. People believed the opal to be a very valuable lucky stone especially the black opal. They say opals can make a person invisible which enables them to go unseen and unnoticed, anywhere, and at will. Many people of the theater prize the opal as a talisman. (2) It is related to: divination and prophecy, balances chakras, used for centering self, aids in channeling and teaching truths to others, psychic journeys, anchor of hope, and is known as the stone of cupid. (3)

It has been said that if you wear a pearl next to the skin it will give off a vibration that has healing properties. Divers often treasure pearls and they are seen as a protection from sharks. (2) Associated with the ministry, wisdom through experience, this stone is thought to quicken the law of karma and bring engagements and love relationships. (3)

This stone is related to the role of a husband. (1) According to ancient legend, people who wear peridot will be protected from evil spirits. Once considered more valuable than diamonds, the Romans wore them as protection from enchantment, melancholy, and nightmares. (2)

This stone has been dubbed "the stone of love" because it is supposed to be able to help a person achieve everything to their greatest potential. It is said to allow a person to feel unconditional love on a physical level. It was believed to be able to dispel anxiety and promote coherence, and enable the user to possess an observant nature which allowed them to focus all of their attention to details and interrelationships. Once believed to be able to foretell the future. Known fact: when squeezed this stone becomes electrically charged. Synthetic quartz crystals are used to regulate watch movements and the electronic frequency of radios because they vibrate at a single constant frequency when an electric current is run through them. Rose Quartz
This stone is carried by people to insure peace, fidelity, and happiness. People believed rose quartz could emit a calm and cool energy which would enable it to gently remove all negativity and allow a person to feel the loving, gentle forces of self love. Some felt this stone was good to wear in a chaotic or crisis situation, and they referred to it as "the stone of gentle love" because they believed it to be able to bring peace and calm to all relationships. It was also thought to be an excellent energy for healing emotional "wounds".(2) Brings more love into the life; skin rejuvenation; helps the kidneys.

Ruby
The powerful ruby is the stone that brings chastity, glory, and freedom from care. (1) Considered regal and sacred, in ancient India the ruby was called the “king of gems.” In England, it was once used for coronation rings. Ancient Hindus once thought that if they offered them to the god Krishna, they would be reborn as an emperor. It was said that if you dreamed of a ruby, it indicated success in business and good fortune in money matters. Long ago it was believed that a ruby could protect you from all kinds of witchcraft, plague, and famine if it was worn on the left side. It has also been said to be able to attract favors from those in authority, be able to give the wearer control of their passions, to preserve the strength in your body, return possessions to their rightful owners, and end quarrels between friends. People used to think that if you washed a ruby in water, that water could be used to relieve stomach cramps. (2) This stones attributes are: spiritual wisdom, mental focus, and confidence. It is the stone of life and energy. (3)

Sapphire
Treats mental illness; Sapphires attract good people into the life, calms the nerves, and are suitable for meditation. It gives pure insight and truth; the stone of chastity. (3) Also considered regal and sacred, sapphires were worn by kings and queens for good luck. They were set in rings for bishops and cardinals. Their blue color was believed to symbolize heaven. Sapphires were believed to promote peace and happiness between lovers. St. Jerome wrote that sapphires could “procure favors with princes, pacify enemies, free a person from enchantment, and help one to obtain freedom from captivity. Other beliefs are that it could resist black magic, give its’ owner great powers of concentration, preserve chastity, and promote good health. (2)

Sardonyx
Sardonyx secures marital happiness. (1) Believed to be able to lead a person to high position, honor, renown, and financial rewards. It was said that if you hung sardonyx around your neck, it could ease pain, give a person self-control, help to attract friends, insure a happy marriage, and bring success in legal matters. It was also believed to be able to restrain people who were inclined to dissipation, and to be able to protect the wearer from all infections. (2) Bands together those of like natures; links loved ones on an emotional level; ties up loose ends. (3)

Smoky Quartz
Many people have carried smoky quartz because they thought it was able to gently dissolve negative energies and clear up all emotional blockages. It was also thought to emit a powerful force field which could absorb many forms of negativity not only from within the person that carried this stone, but from outside forces as well. It was believed to be able to make a person feel personal pride and to create an overall joy in living. Smoky Quartz has also been used by people to help regulate their creative abilities in business aspects, as well as being able to bring about the ability to make smart purchases. Some people believe that smoky quartz can solve communication problems between one another, and may have the ability to get rid of all mental and emotional blockages. This in turn opens up a person's creativity, mental perception, and learning abilities. (2) Helps one get more in touch with nature; excellent for meditation and healing on the mental levels; carries an ultra sound frequency which enables one to develop clairaudience. (3)

Topaz is the stone that is said to be a cure for sleeplessness. It is associated with fidelity. (1) Known as the “Stone of strength,” people believed that if you wore topaz it could protect you from any and all accidents that you may encounter when you traveled, keep you from becoming injured in a fire, and get rid of all fears of death. It was also believed that if you wore it on your left arm or hung it around your neck it could break all enchantments that may have been cast upon you, bring you loads of money, and enable you to receive impressions from astral sources. (2) Used for contacting astral beings and developing psychic abilities; this stone gives glimpses of the beyond, overcomes fear of death, restores sense of taste, stimulates appetite, calms emotions, relieves tension, and restores physical protection from falls and drowning. (3)

Tourmaline
Believed that if a person carried or wore tourmaline, it could help to rid the person of fears and melancholy. This stone is said to attract favors from other people, insure that your friends were loyal, and encourage clear thinking. (2) Tourmaline balances and protects. (3)

Watermelon Tourmaline - Balances emotions, good for relationships and for those who are counselors, balances the metabolism.
Green Tourmaline - Business success, soothes the nerves, brings the brow and crown chakras into balance.
Pink Tourmaline - Works on the heart chakra, increases the will to love and to sacrifice.
Black Tourmaline - Very protective, good for those who have to deal with negativity. (3)

Turquoise
Turquoise prevents arguments in matrimony and promotes love and riches. (1) For centuries, turquoise was considered a highly esteemed gem. It was admired by the Egyptians for its very distinct color. It is the national stone of Iran (Persia) and has decorated the thrones and the attire of high officials. In Tibet, its role is comparable to that of jade in China. Turquoise was a commodity more valuable than gold to the Aztecs. It was so highly regarded by European men that they did not consider their hand to be well adorned unless they wore a fine turquoise. It was once believed to be able to draw evil to itself and away from the person that the evil was intended for. Because of this fact, it was a popular amulet, but it has many other attributes as well associated with it. It was said to be able to ward off the Evil Eye and warn of approaching death by changing its color. Also taunted to be able to protect from poison, snake bites, and eye troubles. People also believed that if you drank the water from which a turquoise had been dipped in, it would cure a weak bladder problem. (2) This stone reminds us of our spiritual nature, gives protection, and is seen often as a stone of friendship. (3)

Zircon
Zircon is not the same as cubic zirconia. Zircon is a natural gemstone with an exceptional brilliance and a diamond like luster. Cubic zirconia is a synthetic stone with a different chemical composition. They are believed by many people to be able to provide peace from a restless mind, be able to strengthen a weak heart, get rid of imaginary suspicions, put aside jealousy, protect you during travel, and protect against thieves. (2) This stone gives the ability to read images and symbols and is a stone for communicating with the angels. Zircon gives safe passage wherever one travels and assures a warm reception. (3)
